Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Washington Ice Dogs. The Ice Dogs program is 100% volunteer run. The team relies on adult coaches and youth mentors ages 13 and up to provide on-ice support during weekly practice, as well as other volunteers to keep the program running smoothly. Coaches follow the lead of head coaches Gill and Kling to develop players' hockey skills while accommodating their special needs. The program’s head coaches, Coach Gill and Coach Tony will provide plans for each practice. Mentors provide essential on-ice support, developing hockey skills, keeping players focused and involved, and engaging players socially. Off-ice volunteers help with a variety of tasks to sustain the program and keep it running smoothly.
Coaches: On-ice volunteers over age 18 will register as a coach and will be required to compete a background check and online sexual abuse training. Coaches will assist with practice, working with small groups or with individuals requiring 1:1 support as well as modeling for the mentors.
Mentors: Volunteers ages 13-17 will register as a mentor. You will facilitate the coach’s practice plans, working with small groups or with individual players requiring 1:1 on-ice support. Mentors will begin by assisting at the 9 am practice. Once you are familiar with the program, with coach’s approval you may also assist at the 8 am A level practice. Mentors will receive Student Service Learning credit for school, church, or community for the hours that they volunteer. The Ice Dogs understand that mentors have demanding school and hockey schedules and we just ask that you let us know on TeamSnap which Ice Dogs practices you will attend.
General volunteers: There are plenty of responsibilities for off-ice volunteers including one-time tasks and season-long responsibilities. Needs include fundraising, planning tournament trips, managing equipment needs, and grant writing. Please provide your contact information and your area of interest on the form below.
All volunteers will register online above. Once you have completed the registration form, a team representative will contact you. You will also be invited via email to join the team’s Team Snap account to indicate your attendance at practices during the season. Volunteers 18 and older will receive an email with links to complete background check and online sexual abuse training. Volunteers, coaches and mentors are required to follow all Washington Ice Dogs, ASHA, and USAH policies.
